Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative and South Asians for
Human Rights jointly launched a study to understand people’s access to information about what
happens in Parliament. The study covered the parliaments of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri
Lanka in South Asia, and to some extent those of the UK and the USA, generally recognised as
advanced democracies. Given below is a set of seven crucial issues that must be considered for
bridging the gap between citizens of India and their Parliament.
